Internet statistics

Network Wizards - Internet Survey
6 monthly survey that tracks the number of host computers connected to the Internet: i.e., the size of the Net. Begun in 1994, over ten years later the graph is still on that upward curve.
Netcraft Web Server Survey
Netcraft tracks the number of servers holding World Wide Web sites - i.e., the size of the Web. Jan 99: 5 million; Jan 02: 36 million; Jan. 05: 61 million - still growing. Market share of Apache, open source software, still growing fast while all others including Microsoft decline.
Global Reach
Good website with global internet statistics comparing the proportions of the web that are in different languages. Also careful and detailed discussions and essays on the reasons for and implications of the rapid changes that are happening.
CyberAtlas
Marketing information about the Web. Useful stats tools page. In Jan '02, the UK has maintained its 3rd place, but China has rocketed up into 2nd - US (168m) China (33.7m) UK (33m) Germany (26m) Japan (22m) S.Korea (16m).
Neilsen's web statistics
Commercial information company, but usually something interesting is available free. eg, June '05, the fastest growing category of website for advertising revenue is general community websites - by far.
Yahoo!'s internet statistics
Links to all sorts of wonderful statistics and information relating to the internet.
NUA, the Irish consultancy
Also has good statistics on the internet. NUA reckons 513 million users worldwide in Jan '02 - 605 million in June 2005.
Internet indicators
Excellent internet statistics - eg, 1 in 6 people use the internet in Europe and North America; 2.5 billion hours spent waiting in 1998. Strangely, its excellent statistics are not up to date, but it is a good source of information with some really good links to other sites.
UNESCO portal to the Knowledge Society
Member States have mandated the Organization to keep them abreast with these new ethical, legal and societal challenges by establishing a permanent international monitoring mechanism.
