Museums and the information age

Suzanne Keene

Butterworth Heinemann: 1998
ISBN 0 7506 3456 1

How museums and other cultural organizations fit into the new world of information and digital communications, and how they can take advantage of what it has to offer.

Collections

The words below are a 'tag cloud' relating to online collections catalogues. It's automatically fetched from del.icio.us, the social tagging website. I have a del.icio.us identity relating to museum collection databases. Anyone can use del.icio.us. You save urls to pages you are interested in and give them 'tags', subjects. The more prominent the tag the more pages it tags. Links automatically form to other pages or websites saved by people with the same tags.

Quite possibly all the pages on this part of my website should be like that. It's much easier to upload tags to del.icio.us than to update a web page, and otherwise hard to keep up with the amount of useful new material that appears daily. On the other hand, one's putting one's faith in a possibly transient web service. Another possibility is to export my del.icio.us tags as html and make them into a page ... the time and bother factor again.
